AFRICAN GIST: An Ugandan Parlament Member Onesimus Twinamasiko have left many Ugandans horrified following his statement on Uganda TV, that men need to discipline their wives.
He made the statement following the comment made by the President that men who beat their women are cowards and should face the full wrath of the law.
These wrre the words of the Ugandan MP:
“As a man, you need to discipline your wife, you need to touch her a bit, you tackle her, beat her somehow to really streamline her.
In an attempt to clalify his comment with reference to his own marriage, he said:
“I don’t mean beatings which cause injuries but a slap. I would feel fire because it’s calling me to oder. We would sit down and sort things out. I was slapped once by my wife and we sorted our differences. I also slapped her once when she had wronged me.”
His words ignited outrage on social medias and many are demanding a public apology. According to Diana Kagere of the Center for Domestic Violence Prevention (CFDOVP):
“Twinamasiko should make a public apology to all women who have experienced domestic violence.”
