Pete Edochie on Ndi Igbo Unity
According to the Nollywood Godfather, most Igbos are not speaking their language and their cultural value is gradually dying. He calls on Igbo leaders to seek for ways to bring the people together.
The veteran actor made this known while speaking with journalist to mark his 70th birthday in Igbo Language.
These were his words:
“There are so many issues making me shed tears. One of them is Igbos are scattered, they are not in Unity. If you look at the Igbos, you will realize they cannot fight together. It’s not struggle for everything that will bring people together. Have you noticed it’s only the Igbo people that pray before eating Kolanut. Why am i saying this? It’s because only the culture of the Igbos can unites them. Also, it’s only the Igbos that celebrate New Yam Festival. Why can’t they choose a particular day in the month of September e.g the second Saturday in September for everyone to come together and celebrate it, rather than having the celebration on different days?
If you take a close look, you will also notice that in the whole of Nigeria, the Igbos are the only ones who are embrace speaking English language.
A Hausa boy will greet his parents in Hausa language. A Yoruba girl will greet her parents in Yoruba language.
Buf an Igbo person will say “Good Morning” instead of greeting in Igbo language. It is painful that Igbo language is receding and no one is doing anything about it” – Pete Edochie
Do you agree with the Nollywood legendary Actor Pete Edochie that the Igbo’s are not united?
