Nollywood Celebrity Gist: Gender equality is a controversial topic that has been argued over the years. One of those not in support of it is the wife of Oni of Ife – Olori Wuraola Zynab, who spoke at the emerging women forum in Maryland USA, where she aired her view about gender equality that women need not bother about some issues as they can never be equal to men. However, Nollywood star actress Uche Jombo, thinks otherwise.
However, Nollywood Actress and Producer – Uche Jombo Rodriguez, who wasn’t in support of the Queen took to her Instagram to clearly express her opinion about Gender Equality.
According to Uche Jombo:
“I have always said it …. We have to understand what gender equality is before the gender equality bill will make sense.
Dear Olori, the reason you can hold a microphone and speak in public rather than at the backyard of the palace cooking jellof rice while your husband travels the world is because women like you fought for us to live life and enjoy it equally like anyone else.
Please see below a summary of what the fight of gender equality is about:
*If i work for 3 hours and a man works for 3 hours, we both deserved to be paid the same.
*A woman can now decide that marriage shall mean partnership, friendship, companionship as well as passion; not slavery.
*I am not better, wiser, stronger, more intelligent or more responsible than a man. Likewise, i am not less.
*If a man’s virginity cannot be tested on the wedding night, mine shouldn’t be tested as well.
*Because my husband has authority in my home does not make me inferior. We are both equal in essence and worth. Our responsiblities are just different.
*It means that my character/behavior is sole guided by my principles, not by society expectation of how i should behave.
*It means that i can wear a crown too. Ask Queen Elizabeth.”
The mother of one went further to state:
“Your Royal Highness, do not be deceived, your select in this revolution has absolutely no bearing in its movement. Stand tall behind the King, watch as more women understand this concept.
Let’s not make mistake for gender roles for gender equality. I believe she was clearly talking about roles/responsibilities as a woman. Hence my repost about learning the right meaning of Gender Equality.” – UCHE JOMBO
Uche has rightly aired her views about Gender Equality. What is your opinion regarding what Mrs. Rodriguez said about men and women being equal?
